Claudia Patrick's "Colors at Night" shines.

Vegas A

In early 2010, Claudia began a new series of architectural night photographs called "Colors at Night." The series grew out of her night work at both the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve and Price Tower. Dwindling light changed the colors of the prairie and the light of the full moon changed the color of the building, revealing amazing architectural features in a stunning, new way. Claudia photographed many of the buildings in downtown Tulsa, exploring the interplay of natural and artificial light and its reflection.  The culmination of "Colors at Night" is a 60" X 45" photograph, VEGAS, taken 108 feet above the Las Vegas Strip, under the full Rose Moon.

Our latest newsletter featured Claudia's latest print named FONTAINEBLEAU: a 60" X 40" image of the incomplete $2.5 billion Fontainebleau Las Vegas Resort.  A victim of the global recession, this incredible 3,889 room resort development fell into bankruptcy and currently sits empty.  Captured at first sunrise, the beautiful blue glass monolith is a study in light play.   FONTAINEBLEAU is the first image to emerge out of the "Colors at Night" series.  Come by the gallery and see the image, which resembles an abstract painting, for yourself.

Sit birdie! Yes, that is a real bird!

What some people don't know about Cherokee artist Shan Goshorn is that her other passion is wildlife rehabilitation and bird rescue. She is so devoted to this cause that she built a backyard aviary that has been certified as a wildlife habitat.  On any given day, she may be feeding baby birds fallen out of a nest or nursing an injured northern flicker woodpecker.

Often times, her work with birds provides her with subject matter for her art.  Recently, Shan began work on a new series called "Displacement" based on invasive species and the devastating impact on native populations of birds.

Keep up the good work, Shan ! ! !

Congratulations to 4 Lovetts Gallery Artists!!!

Cool Afternoon Commute

Bryan Mark Taylor is a featured artist in the upcoming September 2010 issue of Southwest Art Magazine.  They devoted 6 pages to the life and work of this San Francisco oil painter who concentrates on landscapes.  Lovetts currently has four of Bryan’s pieces ranging from "Cool Afternoon Commute" (an urban landscape depicting the streets of San Francisco in cool blue tones) to "Along the Frozen Canal" (a rural landscape portraying cattle in a frozen white field).

Spotlight Mark Andrew Bailey is one of Southwest Art’s "21 Under 31."  Mark paints in the Impressionistic style and is a master at capturing both the light and the mood of interior spaces.  Lovetts Gallery has three colorful pieces by this talented young artist.  Two of them involve bars: "Rum and Coke" and "Spotlight" (a sushi bar).

Red Rebecca Latham is also one of the "21 Under 31" artists highlighted by Southwest Art Magazine.  She grew up in a family of wildlife artist so it should come as no surprise that she specializes in watercolor miniatures of wildlife.  Lovetts Gallery has three of these: "Not Quite Sure" (cougar), "Red" (fox), and "Masked Mischief" (raccoon).  Rebecca also paints portraits of Native American subjects like her latest: "Misun Dance."

Ginger Pot with Oranges

Last year, Joseph Iantorno, a Lovetts Gallery regular was singled out as one of the "21 under 31" to watch.  He paints in the tradition and style of Baroque masters such as Rembrandt.  He also specializes in their subject matter: portrait and still life.  "Ginger Pot with Oranges" is an excellent example of his work.  He calls his work "Chiaroscuro" which literally means "Light and Shadow".

Congratulations to all of these deserving Lovetts Gallery artists!!!

K. Henderson @ Lovetts Gallery

I was thrilled to be invited into the Lovetts Gallery family last year. I was born and raised in Tulsa and am happy to have my paintings represented once again by a Tulsa gallery.

My art work at Lovetts is Contemporary Realism Still Lifes. My most recent painting at the Gallery is "Blue Skies". I love painting silver objects against a striped background. Although the composition seems very simple painting the reflections of the stripes can be a real challenge.

I've been painting since I was a kid and have been awarded over 100 Best of Show, First Place and Peoples Choice awards in national and international exhibits.

Recently, I took two awards at the Art Renewal center: 3rd place still life for 'Happy Hour' and 'When the Dews Fall' also made the top 100.

Live sculpting today with Paul D. Rhymer

Meet the Artist — Paul D. Rhymer

Today from 10 to 6, Paul D. Rhymer will be in the gallery, conducting a live sculpting session.

Paul comes from a family of artists and has drawn and paintedPaul Rhymer at work his whole life. After receiving an Associate of Arts degree in 1984, he accepted a job at the Smithsonian Institution doing taxidermy and model making and retired in 2010. As a result of so much three-dimensional work in his museum job, his own personal artwork gradually began to transform from painting and drawing into sculpture. Being an avid birder, waterfowl hunter, and taxidermist gives him constant anatomy and behavioral learning experiences that inspire his sculpture.

Paul’s work has been exhibited in such prestigious art shows such as the National Sculpture Society, the Society of Animal Artists and Birds in Art. His wildlife sculpture is at the National Zoo, National Museum of Natural History, the Denver Zoo, Woodson Art Museum, Hiraim Blauvelt Museum and various public buildings and parks and private collections thought the US.

Please join us a at Lovetts Gallery on Saturday, July 31st from 10-6, to meet this talented artist.

Artist Brian Koch - Previously Sold Out

Brian KochMany of you will remember the introduction, to Lovetts Gallery, of the exceptionally talented impresionist Brian Koch, earlier this year.  Those of you who do will also remember that his entire introductory portfolio sold out in just a few days.  Well, Brian is back with a new offering of six works.

Koch's initial set was comprised of figurative works, this set, however, is a combination of figurative, Native American, landscape, and wildlife...it is no less impressive.  In fact, this series further solidifes Koch's young mastery and vision.  Seen below is a new awe inspiring piece, "The Watch," oil on linen.  Click the image for more information and to view the rest of this most recent offerings.

New Works by & Meet the Artists - Kevin Box & Claudia Patrick

June New Works By & Meet the Artists — Kevin Box and Claudia Patrick
Saturday, June 19th from 10:00-6:00

Be-Leafs by Kevin BoxIn one way or another, both of these artists are Oklahomans.

Although he now resides in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Kevin Box was originally from Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

He grew up beneath "the tree that escaped the crowded forest," Frank Lloyd Wright's only skyscraper Price Tower. In time, Kevin would make a name for himself in large-scale outdoor installations of bronze. In 2004 he was elected the youngest member of the National Sculptors Guild and was recognized by Southwest Art Magazine as one of the top 21 artists under 31 in the Southwest. He has won numerous awards and continues to place larger and larger public projects.

Claudia Patrick was originally from Boston, Massachusetts and became known throughout the region for
her large scale panoramic photography of cityscapes. She now resides in Tulsa, Oklahoma and has traded the enclosed inner-urban views for the vast open panoramas of the prairie. According to the artist, "I've been using digital photography to explore, through visual language, the changing face of the Midwestern United States. Large scale panoramas and prints are the best way I have found to communicate impressions of the places I photograph."

Please join us a at Lovetts Gallery on Saturday, June 19th from 10-6, to meet these talented Oklahoma artists and to see and learn how they are impacting the regional and national art community!
