Sit birdie! Yes, that is a real bird!

What some people don't know about Cherokee artist Shan Goshorn is that her other passion is wildlife rehabilitation and bird rescue. She is so devoted to this cause that she built a backyard aviary that has been certified as a wildlife habitat.  On any given day, she may be feeding baby birds fallen out of a nest or nursing an injured northern flicker woodpecker.

Often times, her work with birds provides her with subject matter for her art.  Recently, Shan began work on a new series called "Displacement" based on invasive species and the devastating impact on native populations of birds.

Keep up the good work, Shan ! ! !
